Privacy Policy

The short version

  • Your writing never leaves your computer. Pro Writer OS works offline. We can’t see, access or collect your projects, and we never will.
  • The app doesn’t track you. No accounts, no analytics and no data sent back to us.
  • We only hold what’s needed to sell and support your licence: your name, email address, order details and Hardware ID.
  • We never sell your information or use your writing to train AI.

Who we are

Pro Writer OS is made by ScriptMaster. ScriptMaster is the trading name of Billy Cook, the creator of Pro Writer OS, based in England. For this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean ScriptMaster, which is the controller of the personal information described here.

1. The Pro Writer OS app

Pro Writer OS is a desktop app that runs entirely on your own computer.

  • Your projects are saved as files in a folder you choose, on your own computer. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to access them.
  • Settings, trial date and licence key are stored on your computer only. Your licence key contains your name, email address and Hardware ID, so that the app can check it offline.
  • Hardware ID is a short code the app creates from your computer’s Windows machine identifier, using a one-way scramble. It lets a licence work on one computer. It can’t be used to see anything on your computer or to identify you on its own.
  • No analytics or tracking. The app doesn’t collect usage data, crash reports or anything else, and it doesn’t contact our servers.
  • Optional AI loglines. These are off unless you add your own API key. If you do, the text of the scene you’re summarising is sent directly from your computer to the AI provider you chose (for example OpenAI or Anthropic), under that provider’s terms and privacy policy. It doesn’t pass through us and we never see it. You can remove your key at any time.
  • Links in the app (such as our training videos) open in your web browser, where that website’s own privacy policy applies.

2. Buying a licence

Orders are processed by Stripe, our online reseller and merchant of record. Stripe takes your payment, handles tax and fraud checks, and is responsible for your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card details.

Stripe shares with us what we need to fulfil your order: your name, email address, country, what you bought, the amount paid and an order reference. When you activate, we also receive your Hardware ID so we can create a licence key for that computer. If you buy from inside the app, it’s sent with your order instead.

3. Emailing us

If you email us, we use your email address and whatever you tell us to reply and help you. Our email is hosted by IONOS.

4. This website

prowriteros.com is hosted by Hostinger. Like all web hosts, its servers automatically log basic technical information (such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to keep the site running and secure. We don’t use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookies the site sets are the ones WordPress needs when an administrator logs in.

When you use the activation page, we receive your licence code and Hardware ID to create your key. To stop people guessing codes, the page keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address for up to one hour.

5. Why we use your information (our legal basis)

  • To provide what you bought (contract): issuing and reissuing your licence key, and supporting you.
  • To meet legal duties (legal obligation): keeping sales records for tax and accounting.
  • To run the business sensibly (legitimate interests): answering enquiries, keeping the website secure and preventing licence misuse.
  • Product news: we’ll only email you about updates or offers if you’ve asked us to, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

6. Who we share it with

We don’t sell or rent your information. We only share it with the services that help us run Pro Writer OS: Stripe (payments), Hostinger (website hosting) and IONOS (email), or where the law requires it. Some of these providers may process information outside the UK; where they do, they use legally approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or standard contractual clauses.

7. How long we keep it

  • Licence and order records: for as long as your licence is in use, so we can reissue your key, and at least as long as UK tax law requires us to keep business records.
  • Emails: only as long as we need them to help you.
  • Website server logs: kept by Hostinger for a short period, then deleted automatically.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), and the EU GDPR if you’re in the EU, you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct it if it’s wrong;
  • ask us to delete it, where we don’t need to keep it for legal reasons;
  • object to or ask us to restrict how we use it;
  • ask for it in a portable format.

Email billy@scriptmaster.co.uk and we’ll reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, although we’d appreciate the chance to put things right first.

9. Children

Pro Writer OS isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
